Increasingly, our church is becoming an urban laboratory that is making daily discoveries on how to live and how to make God's message relevant. We are committed to promoting this message not just to some, but to everyone in our evolving world. We exist in our community to help and empower each individual to be the whole, completed person God intended us to be.
Our ministry, whether it is to family or homeless, young or old, here in Oakland or around the world, is shaped by this commitment to help and empower everyone to experience this completed lifestyle.
We the College Avenue Presbyterian Church community exist to proclaim the love of Christ to the world, welcome diversity, and nurture personal relationships with God. United by the Holy Spirit, we are led to do the work of God through service and hospitality.
Christians are asked to give of themselves in ministry. Inspiring spirituality, celebrating our Lord, and deepening our faith through worship affords participation by many. Various areas of music and worship are enhanced by the participation of volunteers. From singing in the seasonal choir and the praise team, to ushering, greeting, or hosting during the Sunday coffee reception, we willingly share our time and talents to build up our church community.
The Youth Group is for teens in grades 8-12 who enjoy fun and fellowship. Our meetings provide a safe place for us to talk about issues we face in school and every day life. We also have fun events such as going to the movies, going on ski trips, contributing to the worship service and performing community service.
The Stephen Ministry is an organization that trains selected individuals in our church to provide Christian-based one-to-one care to those who are experiencing all kinds of life needs. Stephen Ministry is confidential; those receiving care can be sure that their identity and what goes on in the caring relationship will remain private.
We have long been considered a mission church. We support a diverse array of groups and individuals in Oakland and throughout the world, particularly ministry to children. Additionally, we support our Oakland community through our weekly dinner, food bags for the homeless, and financial help through the Deacon's Fund.
